Rory Hammond
Technical Manager
Experience and Background
Commencing his career as a warehouse manager at Nestle, Rory soon realised that his keen technical mind was better suited to the telecommunications industry; he joined Airwave sister company SCC as a trainee systems engineer, becoming an expert in VSATS and two way satellite systems. Having earned his satellite stripes, Rory accepted a position as an engineer for a company in Brasilia, Brazil. His expertise served to assist in the monitoring of deforestation and rainfall levels in the Amazon rainforest.
After a successful six year stint in South America, Rory returned to SCC as a project engineering manager. SCCI Group’s acquisition of Airwave expanded Rory’s remit, increasing his responsibility across Airwave’s portfolio of products.
Something Interesting?
Fluent in Portuguese as consequence of his work in Brazil’s capital city, Rory married a Brazilian woman, listens to Brazilian music and is an expert cook of Brazilian black beans. When’s he’s not bubbling beans in his big Brazilian beanpot, he’s typically found with his children, building lego and fiddling with scalextric. He’s an F1 fan and loves cycling, but strangely hates Brazil’s national drink, the Caipirinha, loosely likening it to the drinking of petrol.
